On Android, Google Advanced Protection will soon help secure some devices. The protection will help fight attacks, as well as fight spam and tap calling. The feature will come out falling Android 16.
Google Advanced Protection can be enabled with a single button. Once activated, protection will be enabled to help fight the most common attacks. Google is recommending this to people who need it, such as journalists and elected officials.
Other notable features include the following:
- Locking your phone when offline for extended periods
- Shutting down Javascript optimizer, which can be exploited by hackers
- Not allowing you to connect to 2G networks
- Turning off automatic connections to insecure Wi-Fi
- Automatically powering down a device when locked for a long time
- Enabling Memory Tagging, a way to override protection against exploits and memory attacks
While these protections might not be accessible to everyone, it’s good to see Google making a stand.
