Quest 3S

The Quest 3S Is A Decent Headset

Recently, I got the opportunity to upgrade my Quest 2 to the Quest 3S. My older headset was getting old, and the stick drift was insane.

So far, my experience with the Quest 3S has been okay. The biggest difference here was the color pass through, in addition to the better processor. With the 8GB of ram and the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2, everything feels faster. It’s also got 128GB of storage for $299.99 USD, or 256GB for $400.

For the 128GB version, that’s a great deal. However, it might be better to get the Quest 3 if you need more storage. The base model of that is only $499.99.

Another cool feature here is mixed-reality, however I felt more games are needed here. It’s really cool, though. The First Encounters game was really fun – I got to destroy little aliens as they invaded my real home.

With all these great features, there are always drawbacks – you are missing the 3.5mm audio jack. This means no headphones. However, you can still use Bluetooth for that. The lenses are also the same from the Quest 2. Sometimes I felt that it had really bad lens flares and reflection problems. If this might be a deal-breaker, the lenses on the 3 seem to improve all of this.

If you are upgrading from the Quest 2, this can be an okay product. But don’t give me wrong – If I had the extra money the 3 would be so much better.

Either way, VR has lots of potential. It’s full of interesting games and even social experiences and events.
