Verizon Will Offer Satellite Messaging Later This Fall

When you are in a dead-zone, it can be hard to reach emergency services. Thankfully, Verizon will soon offer satellite messaging later this fall.

On the Verizon website, the company said the following: “Starting this fall, customers on certain smartphones have access to emergency messaging and location sharing even when a terrestrial cellular network is not available. Coming next year, Verizon will offer the ability to text anywhere via satellite for customers with select devices.”

The company has teamed up with Skylo, a provider that allows multiple devices to communicate with satellites. With Verizon, they will offer connectivity that avoids network interference.

While this service seems like it would be just for emergencies, Verizon wants it to be available for anyone for any reason.

Verizon will be the first carrier to team up with Skylo to offer satellite messaging.
