Meta is working on a mixed-reality device that is similar to a pair of glasses. Behind closed doors, Meta is calling it code-name ” Puffin “.
Rumors state the device will feature pancake lenses, as well as only weight about 110 grams. We don’t know much about this at all, but this sounds like a pair of glasses to us. This is definitely not a VR headset, considering how much they weigh. It will most likely track your hands, which the Quest devices already do somewhat.
This is just speculation at this point – However, the report states Puffin may not arrive until 2027. We can’t confirm if the project was even started yet, or whether or not it will ever release at all. The project is part of Meta’s Reality Labs division, which recently canceled a mixed-reality headset.
When they do release, they might be similar to the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses. If Puffin does release, we speculate it will be bridge the gap no longer allowing people to use a heavy headset. Those are just our thoughts. For now, we have to wait until we learn more.
